Location: St. George Ontario. West of Hamilton.
This comprehensive course focuses on understanding how to use a hand held GPS for land navigation. Emphasis is place on how the GPS relates to the map.
Theory items will be enhanced with practical exercises. Students will participate in a multi-function orienteering exercise to find "targets" in the bush using map and compass skills learned in the course.
The course is taught by Joe Bourgeois, owner of Akuni Adventures, and Kevin Morning of the Canadian Armed Forces.
No previous skills required; However, we recommend combining this course with the Map and Compass course to get a full understanding of land navigation.
Walking through thick bush at times up to 1km on uneven terrain.

Transportation, food, parking fees, or accommodation

-Understand the main features of a GPS
-Relating map coordinates with the GPS
-Using the right datum setting on the GPS
-Marking Waypoints or Landmarks
-Traveling to a waypoint or landmark using a GPS
